Proton Edar chief executive officer, Hisham Othman said ever since its launching on June 15, the Saga SV has received 8,000 bookings nationwide including 1,000 from Sabah alone.

“The Saga SV has recorded Proton’s highest number of bookings in the past 10 years in less than two weeks which was a surprise… before this, we only targeted sales of 2,000 units a month,” said Hisham at the Proton Saga SV Introduction Event for Sabah here, yesterday.

He added that out of the booked 8,000 units, 2,000 Saga SVs have already been sold and the company is currently expediting the production process in order to keep up with the demand.

The Saga SV is currently offered at RM36,138 for Sabah, andRM39,588 for Sarawak.

Hisham said the main features of the older model Proton Saga have been maintained despite a price decrease of about 12 per cent orRM5,000.

The new model is powered by a 1.3 litre Campro IAFM engine and is available in manual or CVT automatic. There are six colour choices of white, grey, black, silver, red and blue.

Meanwhile, Hisham said that the company is studying ways to standardise or reduce the price difference of Proton units between Peninsula Malaysia and Sabah as well as Sarawak.

“However, Proton needs to take into account shipping costs, storage, insurance and so on which are the costs levied in shipping cars to Sabah and Sarawak,” he added.
