KUALA LUMPUR, July 4 (Bernama) -- Consumer electronics and furniture retailer, Courts Malaysia Sdn Bhd, will open six stores nationwide bringing the total number of outlets to 66 by the end of the current financial year ending March 31, 2014, says Country Chief Executive Officer Allard Sjollema.

He said the company already had a network of 60 stores across Malaysia.

"Although Courts enjoyed a significant presence in Malaysia, we believe there are still opportunities for growth.

"We plan to have new stores including one Big-Box concept megastore over the next three years," Sjollema told reporters after announcing the opening of the first 'Big-Box Megastore' in Bandar Sri Damansara on July 20.

Sjollema also said Malaysia remained a key growth market for the company given the country's increased population, home ownership and average income.

"Combined with accelerated demand from consumers who are becoming ever more technology-savvy, this has created a favourable market in which Courts was in a prime position to expand," Sjollema said.

Having identified opportunities for expansion across the country, Sjollema said the market would be able to handle up to 95 Courts stores in total, alongside six Megastores.

"Courts will increase its retail space in Malaysia, including that of its new megastore, opening soon, by 208,000 sq ft this year alone.

"This represented a growth of almost 25 per cent," he added.

The new Sri Damansara Megastore will feature hi-tech and innovative retail solutions, many of which are brand new to Malaysia and exclusive to courts.
