KUANTAN: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will monitor the first 10 of 162 corporate companies which signed the corporate integrity pledge with the commission last year.
Its deputy chief commissioner (prevention), Datuk Sutinah Sutan said
this was to ensure that these companies adhered to the pledge that they
had signed.
It is understood that the 10 companies had signed the pledge one year ago and monitoring for the rest will follow accordingly.
“A monitoring team has been formed in our effort to ensure that they
practise and uphold the corruption-prevention principles in their
organisations.
“The MACC-led team also comprises
representatives from the National Audit Department and Transparency
International and they will begin monitoring from this month,” she said
after officiating at the integrity pledge-taking by staff of the Pahang
State Development Corporation (PKNP) here yesterday.
Also present were Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob, PKNP chief executive officer Datuk Elias Mohd Noor and Pahang MACC director Moh Shamsudin Yusof.
Sutinah said the MACC would also this year
enhance cooperation with corporate companies and government agencies to
strengthen their corruption control system.
“In this context, we will study whether the system or the procedure
in the respective organisations needs to be changed to ensure there’s no
room for corruption in these organisations.”
She said the MACC would also set up an
anti-corruption secretariat at teacher training institutes throughout
the country to give exposure to teachers on corruption prevention.
“Teachers will act as key communicators in educating students on the
evil of corruption as their students are close to them and will always
trust and listen to their advice,” she added.
