Sabah's Tourism Industry Positive Growth Spurred Economic Stability

Despite the intrusion in Lahad Datu which once shrouded the Sabah Tourism Industry in fear of a halt in tourist influx, Sabah still experience a positive steady growth in terms of tourist arrivals into the ''Land Below the wind''.

For the period of January to April this year, Sabah even manage to experience growth of 6.6% on overall tourist arrival. This is also a sign of a steady future growth.

Deputy Chief Minister of Sabah cum Minister of Industrial Development, Datuk Raymond Tan was quoted saying that by looking at the improved tourist arrival statistics, he believed that the tourism industry in the state will improve further in the future.

He also said that the target of tourist arrival into Sabah this year is 3 Million tourists, and from that amount, it is expected to contribute of about RM5.4 Billion to the tourism industry. 

Praise should also be given to 'The Eastern Sabah Safety Zone (Esszone)', therefore, a well-thought out decision. where it is just the remedy for a security threat. Without it tourist might be still be worried about security levels in the eastern part of Sabah.

Previously, MATTA Fair was also organized in Suria Sabah Shopping Mall, in Kota Kinabalu for the period of 3 days from 5-7 July. MATTA being the biggest travel Fair in Malaysia, only comes alive twice a year in selected states, and fortunately Sabah was one of the state chosen to host the fair this year.

Visitors at the fair also got super price cutting deals exclusive only during the duration of the event. The fair was also hoped to be a yearly event here in Sabah, where it is aimed to reach RM20 mln in travel package sales this year. The fair have also been well received by participants when saw an increase of 100 booths compared to only 50 booths last year.
