TELUK USUKAN O&G SUPPORT CENTRE

Friday, May 3, 2013

A new project will open a new chapter in developing skilled and non-skilled manpower in Sabah. The Teluk Usukan Oil and Gas Support Industry Centre project in Kota Belud  was recently launched by  Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman. It was jointly implemented by Sabah Foundation and Asian Supply Base, will spur up to 1,000 jobs to the benefit of the local residents.

It was highlighted that the project’s first phase alone will provide about 500 job opportunities  and the number is expected to increase to 1,000 when all the other phases are completed.

The project would help improve the income, skills and the capability of the locals who are keen to venture into the oil and gas industry and related sectors.

The initiation of the project reflected the government’s seriousness in developing the state and to ensure the people could enjoy development as a result of the country’s political, social and economic stability.

The Chief Minister commended and congratulated Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan, who is the incumbent for the Kota Belud seat, for being behind the planning and development of the oil and gas support industry centre. This is yet another commitment by Barisan Nasional led government in it's effort in driving development to enable the state’s multi-ethnic society to enjoy political stability and social and economic prosperity, including in the tourism sector.

In conjunction with the  Kaamatan celebration (which was celebrated mainly by the Kadazandusun and Murut communities of Sabah),  the Chief Minister call upon all Sabahan to take the celebration  as an avenue to empower the agriculture and the agro-based industry, to make it more competitive and resilient in the face of current and future global economic challenges. It should also be an avenue for strengthening unity and preserving and promoting our rich cultural heritage.

Kaamatan is celebrated throughout the month of May with the climax of the celebration to be held at the Hongkod Koisaan in Penampang on May 30 and 31. Kota Belud, which is about 70 km from Kota Kinabalu and situated at the foot of Mount Kinabalu, has been chosen to host this year’s state-level Kaamatan celebration.

Also present yesterday were Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan who also heads the Kadazandusun Cultural Assocaition (KDCA), Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Yahya Hussin, and BN candidates Datuk Salleh Tun Said (Usukan), Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan (Kota Belud), Datuk Musbah Jamli (Tempasuk) and Datuk Herbert Lagadan (Kadamaian).
