Kota Kinabalu: Entrepreneurs here have been urged to make the most of the courses they participate in even though these are only partially funded by the government.
Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Industrial Development, Datuk Hashim Paijan, said this is to enable them to enhance their respective products.
He also said that they should never disregard what the customers comment about their products.
"Never be contented but take note of your customers' comments," he said, adding that before they realise it, the customers might otherwise just shift their allegiance to other entrepreneurs even though both are offering similar products.
Hence, he said, entrepreneurs must strive to continually attract their customers by taking into account their remarks even though some of it might be hard to swallow.
He said it is difficult, nowadays, to differentiate which products are better because almost everyone is selling similar items.
To this, Hashim said the entrepreneurs must continually improve their products' quality.
"You also must not be hesitant to approach the ministry for advice and assistance," he said at the closing of the Sabah Entrepreneur Transformation-Ministry of Industrial Development (TRUS-MID) 2013 at Sabah Sirim training hall, Tuesday.
Nevertheless, entrepreneurs must strive to be independent and not be dependent on the government all their lives, he said.
He said they would never be able to progress if they have such mentality.
On this, the TRUS-MID, he said, was formulated so that the participants not only receive assistance from the government but also provided with information to enable them to be independent and subsequently progress to the international market.
He said the participants should not waste the opportunity given to them but prove their commitment to the programme and attain success in their respective endeavours.
The MID Packaging Programme last year, Hashim said, involved 30 companies from throughout Sabah.
The TRUS-MID, on the other hand, he said, started in May last year and ended in December.
According to him, 15 entrepreneurs from nine districts were selected to receive allocation to upgrade their respective product packaging while another five, received allocation to upgrade their business premises.
The TRUS programme, he said, was aimed at developing the local entrepreneurs by helping them enhance their respective product quality as well as improve their packaging design and obtain halal certification.
"Apart from assisting the entrepreneurs to fulfil the local demands, the programme is the first step to bring Sabah made products out of the local market to the global market," he said.
He said each of the TRUS participants received product upgrading and packaging/printing services worth RM10,000 and premises upgrading services worth, RM12,000.
Also present were Sirim Berhad Vice President (Technical Services), Azim Abdullah and Sabah Sirim Director, Khairan Untoh.
