PUTRAJAYA, (Bernama) -- The Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry has set RM31.2 million in sales transactions at the Malaysia-Indonesia Business Expo (MIBEX) 2013 in Jakarta.

Minister Datuk Hasan Malek said the expo, to be held from Friday to Sunday, would see the participation of franchisor entrepreneurs from Malaysia and Indonesia.

He said 10 Malaysian franchisors engaged in the food industry, beauty culture and textiles would showcase their products at the three-day expo, while five direct-selling companies, three cooperatives and companies involved in related businesses would also promote their products and services.

The expo would provide an opportunity to Malaysian franchisor entrepreneurs to expand their business network as Made-In-Malaysia products are well received in Indonesia, he told a media conference today.

Hasan also said Perbadanan Nasional Bhd had won the "Outstanding SME Development Award: Franchise Development Programme".

The award was conferred by the Association of Development Financing Institutions in Asia and the Pacific at an award presentation event in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, on May 22.

The award was in recognition and appreciation of Perbadanan Nasional's significant success in the franchise sector.

The agency was also credited for providing franchisors access to the franchise financing scheme and human capital development through the franchise training scheme.

The association, a non-governmental organisation with the status of Joint Economic and Social Consultative Council of the United Nations, was established to encourage sustainable development via its 131 members in 45 countries and regions.
