Sabah Development Corridor projects on track

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 24 development projects under the Sabah Development Corridor worth nearly RM1 billion have been or are being implemented as of December 2012.


According to the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (Sedia), SDC’s biggest project is the RM247 million Palm Oil Industrial Cluster now under development in Sandakan.

At 408ha., the POIC sets aside 190ha. for palm oil-based upstream industry lots, 24.3ha. for amenities, and 48.6ha. for roads, electrical substations and other uses.

It is just 1.2km from the IOI jetty and 8km from Sandakan port.

The RM180 million Sandakan Education Hub is another high-impact SDC project, while a RM14 million Mini Estate (Mesej) project, in the Pensiangan area, is already completed.

Projects being developed include the RM50 million Keningau Integrated Livestock Centre to meet local and international demand for meat, and the RM20 million creative content incubator centre in Penampang.

SDC, launched on Jan 29, 2008, has attracted investments worth RM114 billion and is committed to implementing 46 of the 79 developent projects planned up to 2020.

The projects are in three phases (2008-2010, 2011-2015 and 2016-2025) and focus on tourism, palm oil, agriculture, oil and gas, energy, education, manufacturing and logistics.

With the success of the first phase, confidence is high that the second phase will be even more successful, helping SDC to achieve its goals of enhancing the people’s quality of life by accelerating the state’s economic growth, promoting regional balance and bridging the urban-rural divide while ensuring sustainable management of resources.
