KOTA KINABALU: The recent meeting of the Brunei-Indonesia-Malaysia-the Philippines East Asia Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) and BIMP-EAGA Business Council with officials from the Ministry of Commerce, People’s Republic of China has opened vast trade doors to accommodate both the private sector and government-linked companies (GLCs).

However, Chairman of Malaysia’s BIMP-EAGA Business Council Roselan Johar Mohamed said the Chinese would come only if there was a stable government “because stability is good for business.”

“It now becomes our joint responsibility to see a stable government in place in order for everyone to benefit. From what we understood during the meeting, the Chinese government wants cooperation with BIMP-EAGA, and they want more projects to be injected into this cooperation,” he told Bernama.

Roselan said the China-Asean Investment Cooperation Fund was created for this purpose.
“It is hoped that more trade associations and the private sector subscribe to the aspiration of the BIMP-EAGA Business Council to disseminate information like this in order for all to benefit.
