RANAU: A local entrepreneur has seen an increase to her income after receiving assistance from Technology Park Malaysia Corporation Sdn Bhd (TPM), an agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).

The innovative technology was funded under the project development grant of MOSTI and developed in collaboration with the Ministry’s Department of Biotechnology.
Nurkasih Enterprise, located at Kampung Marakau, Ranau, is the first to utilise the tuhau mass production innovation for its commercialisation to the domestic and international markets.
The entire processing and production technology involving cleaning and peeling, grating, frying and drying, to the cooking and mixing of the pickles and final packaging was conceptualised and developed by TPM since September 2011.
“I am happy and grateful to MOSTI and TPM for their assistance in developing this innovative processing and production method which had contributed significantly to our higher productivity and efficiency.
“I am confident that this new innovation will provide a new window of opportunity for Sabahans who are interested in tapping the business potential that tuhau has to offer on a wider scale,” said Wasihah.
Nurkasih Enterprise is among the participants at the Science 4U and Creativity exhibition under the umbrella of the TPM booth which saw the newly appointed MOSTI Minister Datuk Dr Ewon Ebin making his ground visit to gain a first-hand insight into innovation towards improving the societal well-being of the rural folks and grassroots entrepreneurs.
Meanwhile TPM chief executive officer, Dato’ Azman Haji Shahidin said that he was proud that his company has been able to help fulfill the dreams of many grassroots entrepreneurs such as Puan Wasihah.
“TPM, as a leading agency for technology and innovation, always welcome new ideas that have the commercialisation potential. Hence, it is our hope that Sabahans will tap on our expertise and services to develop new technology-based products ranging fromICT, biotechnology and life sciences, advanced engineering and green technology,” he said.
Another successful Sabahan grassroots entrepreneur whom TPMhas assisted is Puan Faridun Nisa Zardad Khan from Sulaman, Kota Kinabalu. Her company, Nusayba has engaged the services of TPMBiotech Sdn Bhd to formulate and manufacture her chocolate drink and herbal tea under the brand name of Pintar Kids and Teh Misai Kuching, respectively.
Production of the Pintar Kids chocolate drink which first started in May 2012 with 20,000 packets has now been doubled to 40,000 packets in February 2013.
Through the active scientific research and development initiatives of biotechnology, the active herbal components can now be identified and extracted. This can be used as ingredients for food as well as beverages towards improving the health and lifestyle of human beings.
Technology Park Malaysia has the infrastructure, facilities and services to assist entrepreneurs who are keen to commercialise their biotechnology ideas especially in fruits and herbs.
It concentrates on four industry clusters, namely, ICT, Biotechnology and Life Sciences, Advanced Engineering and Innovation and Incubation services.
Its subsidiary TPM Biotech facility is also a Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) status facility that was accorded by the Ministry of Health’s National Pharmaceutical Control Bureau in 2006.
TPM Biotech has earned internationally recognised accreditations with ISO9001:2008 and IEC 17025 certifications as well as being approved halal by JAKIM. In addition, its functional food processing area is a HACCP accredited facility. All these accreditations, certifications and large commercial production capacity make TPMBiotech as the preferred choice for entrepreneur products and services.
