KOTA KINABALU: The Minister of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism, Dato Hj Hassan Malek, has assured the State Government that the diesel shortage in Sabah has ended.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman said he had voiced his concern over the matter as the shortage caused a lot of inconvenience to the people.

“The minister in charge has informed me that the supply of diesel in the State is back to normal with the additional quota of 24.196 million liters approved nationwide and nine million litres for Sabah,” he said in a statement after a brief meeting with Hasan yesterday.

In light of the situation, Musa advised petrol station owners to abide by existing laws and not succumb to greed by selling subsidised diesel to non-eligible customers such as factories and heavy industries.

Meanwhile, Musa also asked Hassan to ensure that there will be sufficient supply of essential items including beef, chicken, eggs and other food items with the upcoming Hari Raya celebration.

“In anticipation of this coming Raya celebration, we want to make sure that there will be enough supply of such items. We also hope that the relevant ministry will monitor the prices of such items and not allow unscrupulous traders to hike up prices and take advantage of the rising demand,” he said. -Theborneopost
