KOTA KINABALU, (Bernama) -- Syarikat Perumahan Negara Bhd (SPNB) Sabah office has invited buyers of the newly completed Putatan Platinum Apartments near here to seek its assistance on late charges that they need to pay.
A spokesman of the SPNB Sabah office - he declined to be named - said some buyers may not have understood the contents of their sales and purchase agreement.
"This may be dealt with on a case-to-case basis as the charges vary from one buyer to another," he told Bernama.
The Putatan Platinum Apartments, comprising of more than a thousand units, is located in the fast-developing township of Putatan.
The project was launched in 2009 and undertaken by Kinsadana Sdn Bhd for SPNB.
Bernama received a statement from a group of disgruntled buyers who claimed they were slapped with a late charges bill from the developer on being asked to collect the keys to their new apartments.
The late charges ranged between RM2,000 and over RM6,000 and the buyers are un able to move into their new apartments unless they settle the arrears soon.
"We received a letter from Kinsadana in late May to collect our apartment keys as the occupational certificate (OC) had been released.
"We had no inkling at all that the developer would come up with such an unexpected late charge bill," said retiree Farid Abdullah.
According to Farid, after signing the sale and purchase agreements in 2009 and some in December 2011, the buyers obtained bank loans.
"All financial transactions were then undertaken between the bank, lawyers and developer, with no money passing through the hands of the purchasers," he added.
He believed the apartment buyers were not at fault for the late charges and hoped it would be waived.
