Government Decision not regulating the internet hailed

Tuesday, June 18, 2013

Malaysia did the right thing when it was decided despite the recent rumors, the internet would not be censored. As a result we have a vibrant internet culture. Malaysians love blogging and updating their Facebook and Twitter timelines. What we have seen is a blossoming of creativity and self-expression – the kinds of things we need to transform our economy into an innovation based one.

Another side benefit is that as Malaysians become more web-savvy, they are more likely to warm up to both e-commerce and e-government initiatives, something that we want to encourage.

Furthermore on the same story, the Malaysian government's decision not to regulate the local internet scene will definitely promote further growth in the local services segment, says leading integrated eGovernment and eBusiness company Skali.

Group Chief Executive Officer Tengku Farith Rithauddeen said the assurance given by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak would definitely encourage more to embrace IT especially in those related to the e-government and e-commerce initiatives for which the government is pushing very hard.

He said that while welcome this guarantee of freedom by the Prime Minister himself, netizens should be more responsible with what is posted in the net by only disseminating accurate and factual information.
