'BioJadi' Organic Fertiliser shows promise

The BIMP-EAGA Business Council says its initiative to introduce BioJadi -- a made-in-Malaysia organic fertiliser -- has now begun to yield results.

Chairman Datuk Roselan Johar Mohamed said BioJadi was introduced at the BIMP-EAGA IMT-GT Conference [Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA) and Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Golden Triangle (IMT-GT)] conference held in Melaka in November last year.

"Preliminary results from participating oil palm plantations in Sabah that have started to use BioJadi over the last five to six months have shown very impressive results.

"In Kiansom, Inanam, a smallholder has confirmed that his average yield has increased by more than 30 per cent after just using the product for six months.

"In Beaufort, several owner-operated oil palm plantations have confirmed that BioJadi was able to stabilise and transform their troubled and very low yielding oil palms grown on peat soil into being very productive.

"In Lahad Datu, several owner-operated plantations have also confirmed very significant yield increases and very low occurrence of unproductive male florescence," he said in a statement here.

Several rubber smallholders with unproductive trees due to bark disease are getting very impressive yields of latex after two months of using BioJadi, he added.

"In fact, they report that even the quality of the latex has improved, while those with young and healthy rubber trees have reported double or triple latex yield increases," he said.

Roselan, who is also Honorary Treasurer of the Sabah Bumiputra Chamber of Commerce (SBCC) said the chamber has already started a trial using BioJadi on 200 palms in its 20,000 acre (8,093.7 ha.) Corak Nakhoda oil palm plantation in Telupid.
