LANGKAWI: Snecma is keen to invest in Malaysia over the long term, while focusing on developing the knowledge and skills of Malaysians, through the building of a Centre of Excellence at Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) institutions.

Snecma is part of Safran, an international high-technology group, with three core businesses – aerospace, defence and security.

Via a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed recently between Snecma and MARA, both parties agreed to build the Centre of Excellence to develop a robust study programme, aimed at meeting aerospace industry requirements.

“The key objective of this collaboration is to contribute to and develop Malaysia’s capabilities in the global aerospace industry’s supply chain, through the development of human capital, technological skills and entrepreneurship,” said Snecma vice president and general manager (Military Engines), Didier Desnoyer.

“Talented and skilled people are the key success factors for our major projects and we are pleased to cooperate to prepare for the future in Malaysia,” he told Bernama.

He said Snecma would bring the training and education module from Safran Corporate University in France for the centre in Malaysia.

“We aim to not only train students, but also produce trainers from the Centre, as this will make it easier for the company to have local expertise for the industry,” he added.

Mara director-general Datuk Ibrahim Ahmad said the collaboration signified the desire of his organisation to produce world class professional talent, highly skilled and innovative, in line with the government’s transformation plan.

“Graduate training which meets global industry standards will contribute to the national aspiration to see Malaysia as a developed nation by 2020”, he added.

Snecma designs, builds and sells propulsion systems for aircraft and spacecraft, including a wide range of commercial engines.

It is also a leading provider of maintenance, repair and overhaul services for civil and military aircraft engines, under the new EngineLife brand, while offering comprehensive support for customers.
