PNB: 11.36 Million Account Holders

During dinner in conjunction with Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) 35th anniversary last night (17 March 2013), its chairman, Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid highlighted the fact that PNB had successfully atracted 11.36 million account holders.  89 per cent of them consist of bumiputera with 163.9 billion units of share, worth RM237 billion. 


He said their investments were used to buy equity in more than 200 companies, including blue chip companies. These companies included: 


  • Sime Darby which owned 878,797 hectares of plantation, involving 201 estates in Malaysia, Indonesia and Liberia,
  • Maybank controlled 23 per cent of local markets in conventional banking and 26.2 per cent in Islamic banking.
  • Etika Takaful, together with Takaful Ikhlas, which control RM2.51 billion or 51.5 per cent of the value of the takaful service, 
  • UMW and Perodua which sell 295,760 cars by controlling 47.2 per cent of the national car market. 


Ahmad Sarji said PNB also had assets in London and in Australia which brought in huge returns to the company. All these companies are capable of channeling dividends to PNB to be distributed to their investors. The accumulated bonus and dividends which have been distributed by PNB for the past 35 years totalled RM103.5 billion. 

The diner was attended by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
