ESSZONE can be engine of growth

RANAU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman is confident that areas within the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESSZONE) will be able to become engines of growth to boost the economy of the State.

“This will increase the confidence of tourists and foreign investors to come to Sabah,” he said when speaking at the launch of the Yayasan Sabah Group With The People Roadshow here yesterday.

Areas within the ESSZONE are Kota Marudu, Pitas, Beluran, Kinabatangan, Kudat, Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Kunak, Semporna and Tawau.

Musa said when fully operational, ESSZONE will strengthen stability in the east coast of Sabah, the Sulu Sea and the BIMP-EAGA region in general.

He therefore urged the people to pray for the safety of the security forces who fight to defend the sovereignty, security and integrity of the country.

Importantly, he said the people should remain united and work with the government while supporting the security forces in ensuring peace and security.

“This is not about politics; this is a question of sovereignty and security of the country and the people. It is the responsibility of everyone, not just the security forces alone.

“If the people remain united, our efforts to maintain peace and security, and therefore ensure development for the people, can be implemented more effectively,” he said.

Also present were Rural Development Minister Datuk Ewon Ebin, Tourism, Culture & Environment Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun and Yayasan Sabah director Tan Sri Khalil Datu Jamalul as well as Yayasan Sabah senior officials and local community leaders.

Meanwhile, he said the Barisan Nasional (BN) government will continue to develop and bring progress to the people of Sabah, especially in Ranau and Tuaran.

“In Ranau, we have been promoting Mount Kinabalu, which is also a World Heritage Site, as a prime tourism destination in Sabah.

“The annual Climbathon attracts worldwide attention and we are also elevating the Ranau handicraft industry,” he said.

The Ranau Sports Complex was built at a cost of RM35 million as a high-altitude sports complex that is 780 meters above sea level.

Plans to construct something akin to a ‘mini Putrajaya’ are in the pipeline to place Federal offices and the district court house.

The Ranau water plant systems will also be built at a cost of RM130million.

Apart from this, the construction of the Kota Marudu-Marakparak-Melinsau-Poring-Ranau Road is in progress and according to schedule.

Musa said the people should therefore continue to support the BN government so that all programmes and the State’s development agenda can continue to be fully implemented.
