Tanduo Standoff: No Negative Impact on Sabah's Investment and Tourism

Friday, February 22, 2013

The recent incursion which at present resulted a stand-off within the immediate vacinity of Kg. Tanduo in Lahad Datu will not  leave a dent against the investments along the east coast of Sabah, including the Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC)as well as the tourism industry of Sabah as a whole.

The sense of optimism was expressed by Assistant Minister in the Chief Minister's Office, Datuk Nasrun Datu Mansur. According to him, the situation in Lahad Datu had not impacted the State's economy, which was progressing smoothly, with investors still place their confidence in the district's potential.

He noted that the various development projects planned, particularly the POIC, is progressing well and all plans will continue to be implemented.apart from that, he further noted that all factories and business premises in the district are operating as usual and unaffected by the incursion incident which will definitely end well.

Similar sentiment was also echoed by Malaysian Association of Tour & Travel Agents (MATTA) Sabah chairman KL Tan. During a  a joint press conference with various business and industry-based non-profit organizations which was organized yesterday, Tan assured that MATTA Sabah has not received any cancellation of visit by foreign tourists from travel agents due to the current stand-off with intruders in Lahad Datu.

Bottom line: In spite of the situation that is currently being monitored by the the government, the police force and the military, it is still business as usual. It is strongly recomended that  everyone should place  their trust in the government and the security forces. Listening or succumbing to  rumours that has been passed around by irresponsible parties (Read HERE) through the various forms of communication channels would only create more panic and disrupt your day to day routine.
