TAWAU: Sabah state agency, Sedcovest Holdings Sdn Bhd received an allocation of RM1.55 million from the state government last year to implement 80 entrepreneurship courses in the State.

Sedcovest chairman Datuk Awang Sham Amit said the courses, based on knowledge and skills to assist the Bumiputera community to succeed in business, was implemented in 18 districts.

These included Kota Kinabalu, Tawau, Sandakan, Papar, Keningau, Pitas, Beluran, Tenom, Sipitang, Beaufort, Lahad Datu, Kimanis, Ranau, Kudat and Semporna.

“Sedcovest hopes the state government is able to increase the allocation for advanced courses in entrepreneurship as these courses are in high demand from those who had undertaken these courses before,” he said.

Awang Sham said this in his speech at the closing ceremony of Restaurant Food and Catering Course here yesterday. The event was officiated by Tanjung Batu State Legislative Member Datuk Hamisah Samat.

According to Awang Sham, since 1997 until now, some 20,000 people had participated in skills courses organised by Sedcovest, and from Jan-Oct 2012, a total of 1,800 people had participated in the entrepreneurship courses.

To that end, Awang Sham hoped the participants appreciated the State government’s efforts which not only provided assistance but also gave them skills and knowledge in various fields to ensure their success as an entrepreneur.

He said not many governments in the world provided such special treatment to its people and this showed that the Sabah government is utterly concern with the needs of the rakyat.

A participant, Yamas Nusi, 49, from Felda Umas said the course is very beneficial to him as he acquired knowledge on recipes from other races such as Chinese to expand his menu offerings.
