SANDAKAN: State expenditure for youth development has increased annually since 2008 as the government viewed the young generation as an important asset.

State Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Peter Pang En Yin said the government was concerned with youth development and would come up with creative and innovative ideas to spur youth development.

“We view our young generation as an important asset and will go the extra mile to see to it that their needs and development are looked into,” - Datuk Peter Pang En Yin

Speaking at the launching of Barisan Nasional Youth election machinery in Batu Sapi, here recently, Peter said that youth and sports development would go in tandem to keep youths active.
In 2007, he said the State Government allocated almost RM37 million for youth cause, before increasing it to RM52m the following year and RM69m in 2009.

Last year, the government under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman set aside RM80.3m and this year, it again increased the allocation to almost RM88m.

“We have improved and upgraded sports facilities in various sports complexes around the State so that our youths can enjoy sporting events better.

“And we also hope that more sports talents will be unearthed with these improvements,” he said.
On facilities in Sandakan Sports Complex, Peter said it now has facilities for lawn ball, archery and recently, a rock climbing wall.

Sabah has 12 sports complexes now with 15 more to be built under the 10th Malaysia Plan.
