KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman is confident that Sandakan can become a trade hub for the Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia and Philippines-East Asia Growth Area (BIMP-EAGA).
“I am confident because Sandakan’s location is very central to the neighbouring countries in BIMP-EAGA, it can become a trading centre for the region,” he said this to reporters after officiating at the launch of State-level Sayangi Komuniti programme here yesterday.
He added that Sabah was in position to capitalise on its own social, political and economic stability to fully tap the potential within the BIMP-EAGA.
“We are not just working to ensure the continuation of this ideal condition in our country but also helping our neighbours make sure that whatever problems that arise can be resolved, like our participation in resolving the conflict in Southern Philippines.

Musa believed the Prime Minister’s vision of Sandakan can be materialized as Sabah continues to strengthen ties with the neighbouring countries towards ensuring a continuous stability in the region.
Meanwhile on the function, Musa said he was proud to see a huge turnout for the event, which indicated a strong awareness and commitment among the public in Sabah in playing their role towards ensuring peace and security.
He said this was in tandem with the government’s commitment to implement and support any initiatives that promote unity and sense of oneness among the people.
“There are so many Rukun Tetangga committee members from across the State coming just for the event today, a proof that the response for Rukun Tetangga programmes in Sabah is very good.

He said Rukun Tetangga played a crucial role, especially with opposition leaders trying to create chaos and disunity among the people in their efforts to topple the government.
Earlier in his speech, Musa said the State Government welcomed the initiatives by the Federal Government in providing the necessary facilities for the Rukun Tetangga Committee and would continue to support this effort wherever it could, to further empower the institution as an effective tool in safeguarding the peace and harmony among the people.
Also present were NUID director general Dato’ Azman Amin Hassan and NUID Sabah director Nurul Akmalina Shamsuddin.
the sole distributorship for each and every country within the BIMP- EAGA and IMT-GT was taken up so fast that opportunities were only left for sub-distributors
