Datuk Seri Musa Aman |
It's undeniable facts that when Musa Aman was appointed as the Sabah Chief Minister, replacing Chong Kah Kiat on March 27, 2003 the financial situation of the states was in dire situation. The state's coffer only had RM200 million in its possession, which only enough to pay the salary of state government's staff for two to three months.
Knowing that he was inheriting a state government that was almost bankrupt, he used all his business skill and experience, that has been polished & master for almost two decades, and consolidated it to the State Government administration. Through his three-prong Halatuju economic plan in developing industries from agriculture, tourism and manufacturing to bring his state out of the backwaters of primary exports, Sabah has been chalking up large surpluses year after year.
After almost 10 years, the state government coffer has multiply by several fold. It was reported that Sabah has accumulated more than RM3 billion in its coffer, a testimony of Musa's achievement in uplifting the states economy. Proof of his economic tact was more apparent when he table RM4 billion 2013 Sabah state budget, by far the largest state budget proposal that Sabah ever had.
Another milestones the state government has achieve under the helm of Musa Aman that worth to be mention as follow:
1. Under his initiatives, the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC) was launched in 2008. It is to bring 105 billion ringgit ($ 34 billion) of investments and create 900,000 jobs over 18 years.

2. Moody International has certified the Sabah government for efficient and proper budget management for three years running and RAM has given it a triple-A rating for its finances.
3. Earned praise from Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang for demonstrating sound financial management last year to maintain its record of efficient and prudent handling of its finances over the last 12 years.
4. Under Musa's helm, Sabah has registered a GDP growth of over 7% over past five years which is one of the highest growth rate among all the states in Malaysia.
5. In 2011, the state’s export value stood at RM49.4 billion with trade surplus of RM16.6 billion.
To sum it all, Sabah is on the right path to become one of the most develop states in Malaysia, if the states continually administered as it is today. As the states progress much further, Sabahan should take advantage of all the economic opportunity available to them, so that they can enjoy the full benefits of Sabah's economic boom.
