TUARAN: Small traders are encouraged to register with the Sabah Small Hawkers and Traders Association and the local authorities in order to enjoy the various benefits provided by the government.

Local Government and Housing Minister, Datuk Hajiji Mohd Noor, in making the call, said this is because next year the government will be dishing out various kinds of incentives and the small traders can only get the benefit of such assistance when they are a member of the association.

“There are about 10,000 small vendors in Sabah but only less than 2,000 had joined the association,” said Hajiji, who is also the chairman of the Sabah Federal Small Traders Consultative Council.

He said this while speaking at the presentation of financial aid of RM500 each to 65 recipients under the ‘Sentuhan Kasih’ programme and closing ceremony of the creative craft training programme at Tuaran District Council hall yesterday.

The event was organised by the Women & Family Development Council for P170, Tuaran chaired by Jamilah Anteling, who is also the Umno Tuaran women wing chief.

Touching on the creative craft training programme, Hajiji said, it was organised solely for the womenfolk and it has always been the aspiration of the government to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge so that they could participate in opportunities to enjoy wealth created by the State and improve their livelihood.

“Women has a crucial role to play in this country and this could be seen when the government drew up its policy involving the women so that they could move and developed in tandem with the men and enjoy the prosperity of the country together,” he stated.

“I hope the women will take up the opportunities provided by the government as the days when women are only being treated as homemakers are over, as now is the era where women need to help their husbands to enable the country to achieve the high income nation status by 2020,” he urged

“Women have also proven to be reliable and hardworking as the records in the Yayasan Usaha Maju showed that they are a good paymaster when servicing their loans,” praised Hajiji.

“Women are also reliable in politics and I hope they will once again give the Barisan Nasional (BN) the full support, as friends have told me that the coming general election is expected to be called either in March or April next year,” hinted Hajiji.
