CM commends profit-making govt agencies

KOTA KINABALU: Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman commended all state government agencies for their success in garnering profits in their activities and helping the state government in its development efforts.

“I feel happy because most state government agencies have done well and are paying dividends to the government. This provides for a bigger budget for the government to undertake development activities at rural and urban Sabah as well as for the people,” he said during Sawit Kinabalu annual dinner held at a resort near here on Wednesday evening.

“This is how government agencies should be managed ? our government agencies have been commended and recognised by the auditor-general who has stated that for the last 11 years, Sabah has achieved a clean bill,” he said.

The state, he said, hads also been recognised as among the most efficient in finance management in the country.

“This is the result of the teamwork of all involved,” he said.

In his speech, Musa also commended Sawit Kinabalu and said the government linked company had not been left behind and was also among those GLCs that was paying back dividends to the government.

“I am inspired to hear of the RM300 million profit (that Sawit Kinabalu garnered) last year,” he said.

 

“As the Finance Minister, I have asked all government agencies to govern their respective organisation efficiently and with full accountability,” he said.

He added that the government hoped Sawit Kinabalu would continue to generate income for itself and for the government in years to come.

At the same time, Musa also mentioned on Sawit Kinabalu’s contribution of RM100 million to the development of the state government complex.

He added that Sawit Kinabalu would have its own agency sited there and also said having a government owned complex would allow the state government to save on cost.

During the event, the Sawit Kinabalu group also presented long service awards to five of its staff members who have served the company for 25 years as well as to a few companies.

Also present at the event was group managing director for Sawit Kinabalu, Othman Walat.
