KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Rubber Industry Board (SRIB) made a profit in excess of RM40 million last year.
The success came about after the State government took bold measures including restructuring the Board and strengthening its management.
And, the government also provided financial aid amounting to RM60 million to help SRIB improve its performance.
The years before 2011, SRIB was facing critical financial problem after having incurred millions of ringgit in losses due to poor planning.
The SRIB was even unable to pay the rubber tappers and agents resulting in accumulated debts.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Yahya Hussin disclosed this at a ceremony to present letters of appointment to SRIB deputy chairman and Board members including three new faces at Wisma Pertanian here yesterday.
He said with the financial aid funding and restructuring of the Board, this state agency is now back on the right track.

As such, he said the move to appoint capable people to the Board was imperative to bring SRIB back on the right track.
