The new Minister of Resource Development and Information Technology, Datuk Siringan Gubat’s celebration of success following the May 5 general election is over and he has settled down to carry out his duties at the ministry.
He revealed his plans and what will the ministry be doing in his previous first official face-to-face meeting with the media.
His immediate priority is to increase the internet penetration rate in the state to 50 per cent this year.
Datuk Siringan Gubat said the current state’s internet penetration rate is about 47 per cent.
He will also try and resolve the long-standing parabolic dish issue, which his predecessor, Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai had been engaged unsuccessfully,
He said that the ministry team will be continuing to increase this, especially with the Internet broadband penetration rate.
Siringan also said the ministry is in the process of requesting for funding from the federal government for implementing certain ICT-related course programmes which the ministry has already planned to implement it.
He said the ministry also aims to further expand the e-desa programme, which enables the rural village community to have access to the internet, as this would also help in boosting further the internet penetration rate.
