Pitas: The Federal Government has allocated RM3.8 million through the Malaysian Tourism Ministry to build Bengkoka Esplanade here in an effort to increase the touristic pull of the district.
Construction for the esplanade will begin early next year.
A total of RM1 million has also been allocated by the State Government through its Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment to improve tourist facilities in Malubang.
Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman announced this at the launch of the Bengkoka and Pitas Kaamatan Festival, here, Saturday.
In his speech read by Resource and Information Technology Development Minister Datuk Siringan Gubat, Musa said Pitas' unique beauty and diverse culture would make for an ideal tourism destination.
He added that the increase in tourism in the district would also improve the socio-economic status of the locals.
"The Federal and State Governments' focus and attention has always been on programmes that aim to eradicate poverty and the construction of basic infrastructures like roads, water supply and electricity so that the people can enjoy a more comfortable and better quality life," said Musa.
He added that the State Government has allocated RM200 million to provide an economic source to over 1,500 hardcore poor and underprivileged participants.
The economic source includes 10,000 acres for rubber plantation and an aquaculture project for 20 coastal villages.
Musa also cited other projects like the RM240 million 1,000-acre prawn-breeding project in Kampung Telaga that will benefit 300 hardcore poor and underprivileged participants.
He said the State Government has also allocated RM40 million for pipe installation from Kg Pinggan-Pinggan to Marasimsim to provide clean water to the people in Kanibongan and upgraded 19 main roads in the district.
