PAPAR: A total of 170 Class F contractors qualified to be listed as potential candidates for various public infrastructure maintenance projects (PIA) and basic infrastructure projects (PIAS) in the district this year.

Suitable contractors will be selected using computerized voting system and be awarded one or more jobs from the 42 public infrastructure projects that have been identified for implementation across the constituency.

Announcing this when when officiating at the computerized voting process at the District Community Hall here yesterday, Papa: Member of Parliament Datuk Rosnah Abdul Rashid Shirlin said between 13 to 15 projects would be carried out in each of the three state constituencies in the district, with a total cost of RM3.06 million.

For PIA, which included maintenance works for drainage, road and public building, the ceiling allocation was RM200,000 and all works must be completed within three months, she said.

Meanwhile, for PIAS, the projects are limited to no more than RM0.5 million and included among others, construction of new drainage systems, village roads and jetties.

“With this allocation, I hope contractors chosen will carry out the works responsibly to ensure that they can be completed smoothly and in accordance with specifications.

“This is important as these infrastructures and vital public facilities are for the local community,” said Rosnah, who is also Assistant Health Minister and national Puteri Umno chief.

She also noted that a total of RM21.456 billion had been approved by the state and federal governments for implementing various development projects across Sabah under the Tenth Malaysia Plan.

She said this was made possible due to the state’s improving performance in various economic sectors, adding that Sabah had recorded a trade surplus of RM15.7 billion in 2010.

“This is almost three folds compared to 2006 where we secured a trade surplus of only RM4.8 billion,” she said.

Also present were Sabah Development Office director Datuk Matusin Sunsang and Papar District Officer Iman Ali.
