KOTA KINABALU, Jan 12 (Bernama) -- Malaysia wants more Romanian businessmen to seek investment opportunities especially in the Sabah Development Corridor (SDC).

Foreign Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Anifah Aman said the establishment of Romania's honorary-consulate in Sabah on Friday would pave the way for more visits by Romanian businessmen to the land below the wind and further encourage economic relations.

"On my part, I wish to affirm my assurance that Wisma Putra and our regional office in Sabah would assist in facilitating your office in exercising its functions and duties in Kota Kinabalu," he said Friday night at a dinner to mark the opening of the honorary consulate.

Anifah also said he was pleased with the appointment of businessman, Datuk Clarence Bongkos Malakun, as Romania's honorary-consul and that he would assume an active role in promoting bilateral relations between Malaysia and Romania.

Meanwhile, Malakun said although the official opening of the consulate was held yesterday, some of his duties as the honorary-consul had begun earlier and included efforts to build a bridge between Sabah and Romania's business interest.
